To commemorate Indian Independence Day 2024, Julian Clef assembles a rich collection capturing the different styles and traditions of music from India, in an EP that features music from different regions and religions, highlighting spiritual, secular, festive and dance legacies.

In an innately personal and contemplative musical lineup, Clef offers faithful yet creative arrangements and transcriptions of traditional melodies alongside other pieces which serve as allusions to Hindu traditional festivals and chants. The tapestry of Indian timbres and instrumentation is beautifully translated for the piano, in a fusion of the musical idioms which merge Eastern and Western styles.

“Pictures from India” offers a window into a new sound world for audiences unfamiliar with the music of India in a fresh and unique setting, with a pervasive sense of calm and reflectiveness.
